Reusable Vacuum Membrane Technology Workshop

06 December 2018, 08:30
National Composites Centre,
Feynman Way Central, Bristol & Bath Science Park, Emersons Green
BS16 7FS
Free (registration required)

For the first time the National Composites Centre will host a full one day technical awareness and training on the manufacture, use and costing of reusable vacuum membranes. NCC Member Alan Harper will introduce innovative reusable technology which could help reduce waste and drive down the costs of composite moulding.

A day to discover:

  • How reusable membranes are safely manufactured
  • How they are used  and reused
  • Where they are used for both prepreg and liquid moulding
  • How they save the composite moulding community money
  • New innovations including reusable flow mesh, internal embedded 200+C heater systems, rapid resin

Full Event Agenda:

8.30 – 9.00: Registration

9.05 – 10.00: Theoretical presentation of the technology and case histories of reusable membranes in action worldwide.

Coffee break 15 min

10.20 The preparation of racing seat (or similar mould part) and commencement of manufacture of membrane. This will continue until lunchtime so attendees can look in on progress.

11.30: Moulding Demo number 1: 5 different small machine covers fibre loaded and resin moulded under vacuum.

12.20: Moulding demo number 2:  High fibre volume half m2 panel using multi axial fibre stack infused with the aid of temporary resin runner and REFLO - no peel ply.

1pm Break.

14.00:  Release and trim the finished racing seat membrane and prepare with fibre pack for infusion. Also show membrane in built heater installation and working up-to 200C.

14.30: Make seat infusion under full vacuum using resin Morph feed system.

Conclude with REFLOW use and method of application also SILFLON rejuvenator application.

15.00 – 3.15:  Tea break.

15.20 - 16.00:

  1. Demould infused seat and other parts made in morning
  2. Review all ancillaries, aids and materials.
  3. Repair and maintenance issues discussed and shown
