On Monday 23rd – Thursday 26th May 2016, Mattia Di Francesco,  EngDoc student at the NCC, will be attending SAMPE Long Beach in California, to present a collaborative paper between the NCC and the University of Bristol on thermoplastic AFP.

There is a growing need for composites skills in industry, across all sectors. This means more people must be trained in the subject to keep up with the industry demand. With the centre's involvement in the Apprenticeship Framework, we recognise the growing need for more composites trainers for colleges and work-based learning training providers.

The NCC has launched its latest course; Introduction to Resin Infusion. 

This course has been developed to give a theoretical and practical introduction into the manufacture of composite components using resin infusion processes. The course will cover many aspects of the Infusion process including mould preparation, handling and cutting fabrics, vac bagging procedures and consumables used during manufacture. Good workshop practice and relevant health and safety issues will be embedded throughout the course.

On 18th April 2016, the NCC was delighted to host a visit from George Osborne, Chancellor of the Exchequer, to announce the HM Treasury analysis outlining their view of the long-term economic impact of EU membership and the alternatives. The Chancellor presented the report alongside Amber Rudd Secretary of State for Department of Energy and Climate Change, Stephen Crabb, Secretary of State for Work & Pensions, and Liz Truss Secretary of State for the UK Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs.

On 28th April 2016, the NCC will be hosting the Providing Confidence in Composites event. The event will run from 9.30am - 4.30pm with registration open from 8.15am. 

This free, one day event will publicise and demonstrate how outcomes/outputs from the DURACOMP project will benefit industry and academia. It will also include a tour of the NCC facilities.

The industry body acts on behalf of all those involved in subsea activities including oil and gas, renewable energy and defence stakeholders. It represents the entire supply chain bringing together operators, contractors, suppliers and research bodies across this diverse industry. The NCC joins over 315 members across academia and industry, championing UK subsea sector expertise across the world.

As Meggitt Polymers & Composites approaches its first anniversary as a Member of the National Composites Centre (NCC), the company has finalised its second acquisition in a year, obtaining the advanced composites businesses of Cobham plc and EDAC.

The NCC would like congratulate Colin Sirett, former Head of Research & Technology at Airbus in the UK, on his appointment as the new Chief Executive Officer of the Advanced Manufacturing Research Centre (AMRC) with Boeing. 

AMRC is a fellow High Value Manufacturing Catapult centre, with technology focus areas in advanced machining and materials research, design and prototyping, and hybrid and metallic composites.

On 4th February 2016, Heraeus Noblelight held a very successful demonstrator event at the NCC to showcase their breakthrough Humm3 heating technology for Automated Fibre Placement (AFP). The group of over 40 invited guests were given a close-up view of the technology in action, with a practical demonstration including high speed dry fibre lay-up as well as a presentation of the main highlights of the flashlamp's journey from initial concept to full demonstrator system.
