The nuclear market represents a £60 billion market opportunity with the UK build programme offering companies a fantastic route to a high growth market. Innovate UK has recently announced a fund allowing opportunity for UK businesses to work together on novel equipment, processes and systems for flexible manufacturing.

If you’re a business looking for funding in the area of flexible manufacturing, Innovate UK is investing up to £7 million in a collaborative research and development competition. This is co-funded by the EPSRC (Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council).

An innovative racing yacht, lightweight road cars and the largest openly accessible high rate manufacturing press for composites in Europe were on show to highlight the National Composites Centre (NCC) capabilities. The Rt Hon Dr Vince Cable MP, Secretary of State for the Department of Business, Innovation and Skills (BIS) formally opened the new NCC facilities at the Building the Future for Composites event in Bristol.

On the 27th and 28th of October, Mattia Di Francesco, Gary Poynton, Alex Wallace and Tim Young attended the 2014 edition of the International Conference and Exhibition on Thermoplastic Composites (ITHEC) in Bremen, Germany. The event followed the successful ITHEC 2012 and was attended by over 300 delegates, a 10% increase with respect to the previous event. With more than 50% of the delegates travelling from outside of Germany, the ITHEC 2014 was truly an international event.
