On Wednesday 28th May, the NCC hosted ‘Optimising Composites Material Components for the Marine Environment’, a joint event with MARIC the Marine Innovation Centre based at Plymouth. The event was aimed at encouraging small- and medium-sized companies in the South West to tap into the expertise available at both centres in developing products and technologies for maritime, shore-side and sub-sea applications.

The Technology Strategy Board (TSB) has recently opened a series of ‘Energy Catalyst’ competitions worth a total of £25m. The early-stage, mid-stage and late-stage awards aim to encourage companies and consortia to bid for funding for projects that successfully address the energy ‘trilemma’ of reducing emissions, improving security of supply and reducing cost.

A British Science Association Gold Crest has been awarded to Badminton School pupils working with NCC engineers. At an Engineering Education Trust (EDT) Celebration and Assessment Day, the girls were given the opportunity to show off their novel bio-organic composite material with a presentation to a panel of senior professional engineers from a variety of sectors.
