The Technology Strategy Board is to invest £6m in collaborative R&D projects and feasibility studies to accelerate the proving and commercial application of a wide range of recent or emerging manufacturing technologies involving mechanical conversion processes such as machining, casting, forging, moulding and joining. With the installation of the new press-based technology at the NCC offering high speed composites production, this competition is a fantastic opportunity to collaborate in these emerging techniques.

The Advanced Propulsion Centre (APC) has recently announced a second competition for Collaborative Projects, 'Creating UK capability in low-carbon automotive technologies', in which up to £75m funding has been allocated for a limited number of pre-production projects.

On Friday 6th June, the NCC attended the Engineering Advisory Board Meeting (EAB) at the University of the West of England, hosted by the Department of Engineering Design and Mathematics.

On 29th May the NCC arranged its 4th Academic Engagement Event, chaired by Prof. Mike Hinton. 

Thirty-three academics attended from a wide cross section of UK universities. The main focus of the meeting was to discuss the scientific input which will be needed to support the Composites Leadership Forum's (CLF) 2014 National Strategy Review. The CLF has been engaging with industry groups to identify ‘Market Pull’ while this event provided the required ‘Technology Push’ impetus.

On Wednesday 28th May, the NCC hosted ‘Optimising Composites Material Components for the Marine Environment’, a joint event with MARIC the Marine Innovation Centre based at Plymouth. The event was aimed at encouraging small- and medium-sized companies in the South West to tap into the expertise available at both centres in developing products and technologies for maritime, shore-side and sub-sea applications.

The Technology Strategy Board (TSB) has recently opened a series of ‘Energy Catalyst’ competitions worth a total of £25m. The early-stage, mid-stage and late-stage awards aim to encourage companies and consortia to bid for funding for projects that successfully address the energy ‘trilemma’ of reducing emissions, improving security of supply and reducing cost.
