'Building the Future for Composites’ NCC Grand Opening Event - Thursday 30th October 2014

We are proud to announce that the NCC will be holding the ‘Building the Future for Composites’ Grand Opening Event on Thursday 30th October 2014. We believe that, thanks to the uptake and interest form the composites community, and especially to our Member companies, the NCC is a great success story for joint working between industry, academia, and government.

The NCC really is Building the Future for UK Composites. Following an original £25 million public investment in 2010, a further £28 million investment via Innovate UK was announced in December 2012 to double the size of the NCC and the new building is now complete. The new facilities enhance the existing NCC technology development and innovation space by providing further training facilities and small industrial workshops. Our state-of-the-art industrial learning facilities provide a supported innovation environment for SMEs to quickly develop products and specialist process knowledge, using smaller scale standard design, manufacturing and testing equipment. The NCC also serves as an ideal training environment for individuals and small groups to obtain tailored learning to complement existing skill levels.

The NCC provides a high quality environment for the development of cutting-edge composite technologies into manufacturing processes with the aim of delivering truly innovative composite solutions to UK industry. We work with UK-based companies to accelerate innovation alongside people development to deliver commercial solutions.

Our open-access, secure facility is available to all UK-based companies on a pay-per-use basis or via commitment to an annual pre-committed membership spend. This model provides a flexible approach to enable working with companies of all sizes - from SMEs to Tier 1s and large OEMs. The NCC Tier 1 membership includes access to a £1 million collaborative research programme. Current NCC industry membership has grown to 39 companies, with an initial bias towards Aerospace, but with increasing participation from Automotive, Rail, Oil & Gas, Marine, Renewables, Domestic Goods, Materials, Simulation, Tooling and Equipment.

The NCC is one of seven research and technology centres that have come together to form the High Value Manufacturing Catapult

All Member companies have been offered the chance to exhibit at the event and selected Member company staff have been invited to attend the event. We hope to have in the region of 300 attendees from industry, government and academia.
