On 1st and 2nd March, the NCC will be holding a Composites Awareness course for EDT’s Year in Industry (YINI) Scheme.
EDT is a not-for-profit organisation aiming to engage young people studying STEM subjects with industry. EDT does this through a continuum of schemes for secondary-aged students from one-day tasters to six month long projects and year-long placements in industry.
Specialist measurement service provider INSPHERE Ltd will offer access to the National Physical Laboratory's (NPL) leading measurement training programme in south-west England, as part of a new agreement.
On 9th and 10th February, the NCC welcomes all Members to attend the BINDT Workshop on NDT/SHM Requirements for Aerospace Composites. This two-day workshop looks to establish what is required of NDT and SHM to facilitate game-changing solutions for new, more efficient composite designs and new design and manufacturing processes for both civil and military aircraft.
The NCC is delighted to announce that Altair Engineering Ltd has renewed its Associate membership with the NCC for another three years. Altair first joined the NCC in December 2012 and has since reaped the benefits of being involved with the innovative
R&D centre based in Bristol. Altair Engineering Ltd offers technology and services for business and engineering innovation, focusing on the development and application of simulation technology to improve business performance.
UK Trade and Investment (UKTI), Composites UK and the National Composites Centre (NCC), along with 14 of the UK’s innovative and growing composites companies, are joining forces at the 2016 JEC World Composites Show in Paris this March to promote the UK as a driving force in innovation for fibre-reinforced composite materials (FRPs).
The UK Pavilion is designed to showcase the UK companies and the UK as a major player in the composites arena and we invite you to visit us.
The NCC is pleased to see the future prospects of UK based Aviation Enterprises Limited (AEL) being lifted through acquisition by Airborne International (Airborne). Through this 100 % share acquisition, Airborne gains a footprint in the UK and enhances its position in the composites market for marine structures. AEL has a strong network in the UK, as well as extensive technical expertise and a solid Intellectual Property portfolio in the field of marine composites.
The NCC Capability and Training teams have been working with GKN Aerospace and Coriolis Composites to develop an Automated Fibre Placement (AFP) Modular Training Programme suitable for introductory, intermediate and advanced learning.
The first stage is nearing completion and the AFP Familiarisation course content has been finalised following the delivery of the second pilot course on Wednesday 9th December 2015 to GKN Aerospace nominated delegates. When asked what they enjoyed about the course and whether it met their expectations, delegates told us:
On Monday 7th March 2016, Digimat will be hosting a Composites Technology Day at the Délégation Générale Wallonie-Bruxelles (AWEX) in Paris. This free event coincides with JEC World Composites Show and Conference on 8th - 10th March, giving composite designers, CAE engineers and simulation managers an opportunity to combine their visit to the world's biggest composite event with a technical conference the day before.
The Digimat technical day will focus on the accurate modelling of chopped and continuous fibre composites.
