NCC at Subsea Expo 2017

Subsea Expo 2017 is a three-day conference and exhibition organised by Subsea UK and is Europe’s largest subsea event. It is aimed at all those organisations which have interests in subsea activities including oil and gas (hence Aberdeen, Europe’s oil and gas capital), renewable energy and sub-sea mining.

Over 4,500 visitors attended Subsea Expo 2017, with delegates from all corners of the world, including DIT-escorted missions from Brazil, China, Japan and Mozambique.

Subsea UK Chief Executive, Neil Gordon, said: "The worst of the pain appears to be behind us and there are promising signs of recovery. The subsea opex market should remain relatively robust and there are signals that delayed projects may be getting back on track."

This is good news as the UK is a global centre for a raft of advanced technologies such as Remote Operated Vehicles, subsea inspection, seismic surveys and the design and manufacture of structures which have to operate under immense pressures in the most hostile environments.

There is a great interest in the use of composite materials because of their weight and corrosion resistance. The NCC is working closely with a number of renewable energy companies (and was recently successful in a Wave Energy Scotland R&D call in a consortium led by Cruz Atcheson Consulting) and with a number of oil and gas companies.

The NCC made a number of useful contacts at the show which we hope to devlop into projects over the coming months.
